Purse Glosses. These are the lip products that will go with any look and you can apply easily without a mirror. I am guilty of keeping up to 10 lip products in my purse at a time so I can easily change my look at the drop of a hat, but the ones I tend to reach for most are the low maintenance, neutral, hydrating options. I’ve selected 3 of my tried and true favorites that look great even if your lips are dry or the rest of your makeup has gone wonky.
This Buxom Full on Lip Cream in White Russian used to be a real favorite in my collection and I used it religiously. Then I went through a bit of a matte lip stage and this (and all my glosses) fell by the wayside. And I have rediscovered it just in time for Valentine’s Day!
I am a fan of several of the Buxom lip products, but this one is especially good for Valentine’s Day or date night. Let me tell you why…
I had been hearing about the new Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara so I had to pick it up (Make sure you print off the $3 off manufacturers coupon you can find online so its only $5!).
Instead of going to Ulta to earn rewards points like I typically do for my drug store makeup splurges, I chose CVS because they carry Milani and I had to have another one of their Baked Blushes. Luminoso is amazing so I opted to try Berry Amore because Amelia Liana insisted it was a good dupe for Mac’s Warm Soul Mineralize Blush. I’ll report back on that.
As if I didn’t have enough Revlon Lip Butters. I had to try this color. I bought Crème Brulee, a very nude shade. It looked intimidating-ly brown in the tube, but I love the look it gives the lips.
More in depth reviews of all these products coming soon!
This lip balm is very sheer. Don’t be fooled by the dark color of the bullet, it is a red at best.
You can layer it on for more pigmentation, but the best I got out of it was a bright red, not a berry.
I really do like this product for giving a natural flush to the lips. It looks like you’ve just bitten into some berries and they’ve stained your lips. But, if you’re expecting a deep plum or berry shade this is not the product for you.
I was looking for a neutral lip liner that I could use on its own or under nude lip products and this one seemed to fit the bill.
It matches my natural lip color very closely and I have found that it works very well for defining my lip line with an untraceable color. It just makes my lips look more defined and no one can tell I am wearing anything on my lips.
Essentially it is my “your lips, but better” lip liner.
If you are interested in creating that super full, Kylie Jenner lip look, but aren’t confident with over lining your lips, I would recommend starting out with this liner. It is subtle enough that if you get carried away overdrawing the line you won’t end up looking like a clown.
I carry this everywhere with me now. It is always in my makeup bag and I love using it to line my lips when I want to look flawless, but like I wasn’t trying too hard.
The formula of the Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lipsticks is wonderful. It is moisturizing and the color is very pigmented and does not cling to dry patches or look scary as it wears off. But, this lipstick is supposed to have a matte finish—I would say it is a satin or semi-matte finish at best. It does not really apply or dry completely matte and since it is very creamy it is hard to expect it to dry to a matte finish.
That being said, I really like the look it gives and this color is another beautiful brown-y, pink nude for the fall. Just don’t buy this expecting it to give a super matte effect.
Since I am a serious Tanya Burr fan, I knew I would wear her lip glosses even if I didn’t like them. Turns out, I love them.
My first order was Picnic in the Park, which I also love and has a sweet, yummy, fruity fragrance. When I received Vampire Kiss I did not think that it would have the same great scent and texture due to it’s vivid color, but it does!
The color is beautiful and surprisingly opaque. Most red glosses do not give as much color as this one and can end up looking sheer and pink. Worn on its own, Vampire Kiss is a deep, glossy red. I even use it over other red lipsticks to amp up their impact and give a glossy finish.
I am still surprised at how much I like this gloss and would very much recommend it if you like bold lips.
