Tarte Gifted Mascara

This is my mascara obsession at the moment. I think Tarte Gifted has become my new, all time favorite.

With just a few quick coats it gives amazing volume and definition. It’s not really a super lengthening mascara, but it does coat all my lashes incredibly well and makes them look longer and fuller. I really can’t get enough of this mascara and everyday that I don’t use it, I regret it.

Perhaps the best feature of this mascara is that I get very little or no smudging when I wear it. It stays put and I have only had a couple of instances where it transferred to my lid.

The wand is very thick and brush-like, which I find makes it quick to apply and coats every lash in the first go. It builds very well so you can go in later and continue to layer it on and it doesn’t make your lashes go all clumpy.

I only wish that I hadn’t fallen in love with a high-end mascara, because now I am going to be forced to repurchase it and pay the price.

Never mind, it’s worth it.

Makeup Menu: The Pinks

Pink might be my favorite makeup color to wear. Today I combined some of my favorite pink products to create a wearable, winter makeup look.

Maybelline Brow Drama Sculpting Brow Mascara

With the recent emergence of many drugstore eyebrow wonder products, I find myself straying from my tried and true Brow Wiz and Gimme Brow.

The Maybelline Brow Drama is one product I have dabbled with off good recommendations.

CVS Makeup Haul

I made a cheeky trip to CVS!

I had been hearing about the new Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara so I had to pick it up (Make sure you print off the $3 off manufacturers coupon you can find online so its only $5!).

Instead of going to Ulta to earn rewards points like I typically do for my drug store makeup splurges, I chose CVS because they carry Milani and I had to have another one of their Baked Blushes. Luminoso is amazing so I opted to try Berry Amore because Amelia Liana insisted it was a good dupe for Mac’s Warm Soul Mineralize Blush. I’ll report back on that.

As if I didn’t have enough Revlon Lip Butters. I had to try this color. I bought Crème Brulee, a very nude shade. It looked intimidating-ly brown in the tube, but I love the look it gives the lips.

More in depth reviews of all these products coming soon!

Clinique High Impact Curling Mascara

Recently, most of the mascaras I have been keeping in heavy rotation have dried out and required tossing.  I had to replenish my supply and when I saw the nice bonus gift Clinique was offering, I knew it was time to revisit one of my favorite mascara brands.

I was always a fan of the High Impact Mascara so this curling version intrigued me. The brush is curved, much like the Falsies Mascara wand, but thinner.  Be warned that the formula is very wet so it can get messy quite easily, but once it dries this mascara is not going anywhere.  I like that it is long wearing and doesn’t smudge, even when I use it on my lower lashes. But, it is a bit of a challenge to get off and it flakes off very messily when confronted with eye makeup remover.

My main complaint with this mascara is that it does not layer well.  It dries very quickly and clumps up easily, which means that it does not provide as much drama as some other mascaras.  For day time use, I really like this High Impact Curling Mascara, but I think there are better formulas out there if you want really dramatic lashes.  This particular product does not lengthen or volumize as well as some of my other favorites.

Rimmel Lash Accelerator Mascara

Supposedly, Rimmel Lash Accelerator is an ideal mascara for your bottom lashes.  Well, that’s what I heard. The formula and brush would make it seem that that is true. It applies very evenly with no clumping and has a very wet formula as far as mascaras go.  It also keeps lashes soft to the touch and feels nourishing (although, who knows if it really does help your lashes grow, the jury is still out on that one).

I like a much more dramatic look for my eye lashes so I layered this under a few of my other mascaras to ensure I got the thickness, length and darkness I desired.  I was not expecting it to deliver the drama I wanted and it didn’t, but I was expecting it to work well for my bottom lashes.

It did apply very nicely to the bottom lashes; the brush shape was very conducive to coating all the small baby lashes.  I was happy with how it looked initially, but after wearing it all day, it smudged under my eye.

Smudging under the eye is probably the most unattractive makeup malfunction that can possibly happen.  In my opinion anyways.  I gave it a few chances and wore it on my bottom lashes for several days, but I was not impressed at all.  For almost $10, I was expecting higher quality.  I think I’ll spend a few more dollars and stick to my Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara.

Kylie Jenner Inspired Makeup

With her constant stream of selfies, images of Kylie Jenner’s makeup are all over the place.

Here is my interpretation of some of her most frequent looks and products you can use to achieve the same effect.

Matte Skin– Kylie’s skin tends to look matte and flawless.  L’Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder Foundation provides a very matte finish and can be built up to medium coverage to deliver that flawless and pore-less look.

Contoured Cheeks– Typical of the entire Kardashian-Jenner clan, Kylie’s cheeks tend to always be contoured.  To achieve a similar effect use your favorite contour shade (mine is Benefit’s Hoola Bronzer) and the Nars Ita Brush to carve out the hollows of your cheeks.

Graphic Liner– Graphic black eyeliner and a dramatic cat eye are staples in Kylie’s selfies.  I like to use Maybelline Line Stiletto in Blackest Black to create a sharp wing.

Full Lashes– Of course, full, thick lashes are another must have to get Kylie’s makeup look.  L’Oreal Miss Manga Mascara is my current favorite to achieve super dramatic lashes.  I wrote a more in depth review here.

Dark, Full LipsLorac Alter Ego Lipstick in CEO is a beautiful dusty rose lipstick that delivers that 90s, vampy look.  Kylie’s lips are always full, dramatic and dark.  This lipstick formula is very nourishing and smooth, yet dries matte, which looks great in pictures.

L’Oreal Vlouminous Miss Manga Mascara

This mascara has replaced my Maybelline Falsies as my go-to, super dark and full mascara.

I was skeptical about the trick wand that has a flexible joint in the middle that allows it to bend and hug your lashes as you apply it. It took a little getting used to, but the flexible wand actually helps the bristles comb through your lashes more slowly. The unique bristle distribution and shape of the brush is my favorite feature of this mascara. Instead of a uniform shape or something like the Falsies’ wand that creates evenly full lashes, this mascara gives lashes a doll like look àla the Ardell 102 Demis or the Velour Doll Me Up Lashes.

Overall, this mascara provides length and fullness while giving lashes a unique effect and never smudging.  I would definitely recommend this to a friend.
